How To Purchase Electric Ventilation Fan
1/9/2013 7:35:22 PM
- Look for good Electric Ventilation Fan.These fans include range hoods, bathroom and utility fans and inline fans. good Ventilation Fanwith lighting use an average of 70% less energy than standard models. They provide better efficiency and comfort with less noise and use high performance motors that work better and last longer than motors in conventional models. They also include improved blade design, with better performance and longer life.
- Choose quiet fans, based on the sone level. The lower the sone value, the quieter the fan. One sone is the equivalent of a quiet refrigerator.
- Look for an HVI Certified label. HVI is the Home Ventilating Institute, a nonprofit association of manufacturers. Products are independently tested and certified that they meet the stated ratings for airflow, sound and energy use.
- Determine the cubic feet per minute (CFM)—the volume of air moved by the fan blower— required in the area to be ventilated. This depends on the size and location in your home (bathroom, kitchen, etc.). For example, HVI recommends that bathrooms have a minimum of 50 CFM for bathrooms less than 50 square feet and 1 CFM per square foot of floor space for bathrooms between 50 and 100 square feet. With bathrooms with larger square footage, they recommend additional CFM for each fixture (tub, shower, toilet) in the room. For range hoods, HVI recommends 250 CFM for 30-inch range hoods, 300 CFM for 36-inch range hoods and 400 CFM for 48-inch range hoods.
